Thumbs
Up / Down

When
viewing a programmes details
or watching Live TV you can press the
red thumbs down, or green thumbs up buttons on the TiVo remote
to rate the programme. You can assign each programme either one,
two, or three thumbs up or down. TiVo uses these ratings to build
up a profile of what genres of programmes, actors, and directors
that you like to watch and will suggest other programmes that
you may like through its suggestions
list.
Best
practice for thumbing is considered to be:
Three
Thumbs Up: Use this for one or two of your favourite shows.
Two Thumbs Up: Use this for your top ten or fifteen favourite
shows.
One Thumbs Up: Use this for all programmes you like (one thumb
up is automatically assigned to a programme when you record it).
Thumbs Down: Use very sparingly. Consider giving one thumbs down
to a couple of programmes you really hate. Its generally better
to thumb up lots, rather than to thumb down. If TiVo suggests
things you don't like then just ignore those suggestions.
If
TiVo is not suggesting programmes
that you enjoy then you may want to remove
you thumbing profile and start thumbing from scratch. TiVo does
not react instantly to thumbing - it makes some quick changes
but a proper reorganisation is not performed until after the next
daily call so give TiVo a chance
to sort itself out.
