The procedure to
follow to assign your remotes to TiVo boxes is detailed in
Appendix B of your TiVo user guide. The steps are as follows:
1. Block of the
IR panel at the front of all the TiVo's except the one you
want to assign a remote control to.
2. With the remote
you want to assign, navigate from TiVo Central to "Messages
& Setup", then "System Information". Scroll
down until you see the "Remote Address" section.
3. Cover the top
end of the TiVo remote and hold down the TiVo and Pause keys
at the same time until the red light at the top lights, then
release the buttons.
4. Uncover the
end of the remote and point it at the TiVo you wish to assign.
Press a number between 1 and 9 on the remote. Each TiVo should
be assigned a different number. Pressing 0 allows the remote
to control any TiVo, and the TiVo to be controlled by any
remote. The "Remote Address" field should change
to match the number you pressed.
5. Press the TiVo
button. Now repeat the steps for the other TiVo's.
Note be careful
when visiting the System Information screen in the future
on any of your TiVo's. If you leave them on this screen and
then use a remote for another TiVo you will reassign the TiVo
you left in the System Information screen. Each key press
will then be picked up by both TiVo's at the same time.
You can buy a special
remote from the TiVo Store on the US
TiVo Website. This has a switch to toggle between two
different remote assigns so one remote can control two TiVo's.
Unfortunately the US TiVo Store currently only ships to addresses
in the US, not internationally. You will need a friend in
the US who can buy one for you and send it on.
