When the pick programmes to record from favourite channels page is selected, a message is displayed saying that favourites have not been set up - even if they have been.

UPDATE 23 Apr 2001: This message appears when the favourites list contains no channels from TiVo's internal tuner (terrestrial analogue). Once one of these channels is added as a favourite the message disappears.
